Interview with MavrickIndigo
Where and how did you come up with the idea for The Most Insane Apocalypse Ever?
About a year before writing it, I had obtained the Max Brooks Zombie Books "The Zombie Survival Guide" and "World War Z." While reading it I heard about another book called "How to Survive a Robot Uprising." I thought it would be insane to have to survive both, so I devised a method for that to happen, toying with the thought for awhile, adding elements before and during writing (Originally it was just Zombies, Robots, and Aliens, then I added everything else).
What inspired you to sit down and write The Most Insane Apocalypse Ever?
A few things actually: It was the option that most people wanted to see when I asked what stories I should write for the Month of Words, and my major inspiration to actually write it and finish it on a deadline was the Cover-art prize for completing it first. I also thought it would be a fun story to write, which it was, and I plan to use it as a prologue to my current series of RPs.
Are any of the characters in The Most Insane Apocalypse Ever based on anybody you know online or in real life?
Robert is based on me and my coworkers a little bit. Plus he's the average zombie fan who gets his dark dream fulfilled of actually being in a zombie onslaught.
Did you learn anything while writing The Most Insane Apocalypse Ever?
Well, I think I learned a bit of my downsides in order to refine my technique. Mostly I think I've learned that good stories usually take more than one draft as you can think of cool stuff to add near the end and put it in (like I did) but if you rewrite it, you can have it all throughout the story, or at least foreshadowed for a cool effect.
Did you ever get writer's block while writing The Most Insane Apocalypse Ever? How did you overcome it?
The 2,000 words where I introduced the aliens was really bad for me for some reason. I just moved on and went to the next part.
What was the hardest scene to write in The Most Insane Apocalypse Ever?
I guess it was the same as above because of the writer's block.
What was your favorite scene to write in The Most Insane Apocalypse Ever?
That's a hard one to answer as I had fun writing almost all of it. I do think introducing the zombies was fun starting from the video game scene as it was cool to set up a zombie outbreak.
If you were to go back and rewrite The Most Insane Apocalypse Ever, what would you change, if anything?
I would probably pace things better and introduce some characters earlier.
What other projects are you working on right now?
Right now I'm working on RPs mostly like Festival of Zhell and others that other people began. Like I said I wanted this to be a prequel to my new RP series, so I hope to get that off the ground successfully.
Do you have any ideas for a new fiction?
I've been thinking of doing a story about my superhero character, Censorman, for some time, and I've got other story ideas in my head at all times as well so I'm not short on ideas for fictions.
This is the second time you complete a fiction for the Month of Words event. How well do you think you did compared to the previous event? Do you think there are improvements in writing speed, quality, or otherwise?
Well, I did write more words per day, but I don't think I sped up any speed-wise. I think I did a bit better description-wise in the beginning of the rp but otherwise I don't think I changed too much except it seemed a bit better organized.
Anything else you'd like to say about The Most Insane Apocalypse Ever?
It was a very fun piece to write and I hope to revisit the world sometime in the future possibly in RP form or from another point of view.

Here we have comments from the people who have read the story.

Trauma Advocate     This story was pretty much perfect for a MoW entry. It was silly, it was fast-paced, and it made me want to keep reading, mostly through morbid curiosity. It looked like it would have been easy to post to.
On the whole, the story reminded me of Scary Movie 4; It took every "end of the world" movie out there and shoved them together into a hopeless mess of a situation that would surely leave none alive. And that's sort of what happened, regardless of development, so many characters met their end that by halfway through the story I was completely numb to it. I sort of stopped caring about them when I realized practically no one was going to make it.
Still, for a story crammed into 30 days (or in this case, far less) I was impressed. It may not have been the best story I've ever read, but it was fun, if a good deal confusing.
